Communicating in high school can be tough nowadays. You walk into any classroom and you see the majority of people on there phones. It's part of the generation we live in. It must feel weird to all the teachers because back in there high school days there wasn't as advanced technology. Conversations would happen a lot more often. Face to face how it should be. Unfortunately we probably won't ever see that again.
Very true Erik, i agree with you everyone lives off their phone now. The majority of toddlers only want to play games online instead of coloring a book or playing outside. Hopefully things don't get worse for the generations that are along they way, but maybe it's already to late.
ReplyDeleteIt is the sad truth what is going on because of technology. But you also have to consider that the advancement of technology is a good thing but it's also a win-lose situation. Makes people more intelligent and less intelligent at the same time.. If that makes sense.
ReplyDeleteErik, I think there are a lot of younger teachers who can completely relate to you with regards to your cell phone fetish...I mean even us "older" teachers let our cell phones manage our time and priorities. The interesting thing your generation has not mentioned, at least not this year in my classes, is that the cell is controlled by YOU, the user. I mean it is for your convenience, so you can also put it away and make a conscious choice to be "in the moment of conversation or class instruction". Just put it out of sight, then it may be out of mind and those snaps might still be lingering when you return! The question for us to ask ourselves really may be are we willing to separate ourselves from the links that we cannot see at the moment or are those distractions too important? May be our self worth is tied up in our technology...hmmm
ReplyDeleteTrue, It is now up to the teachers and parents to regulate the usage of these devices. I believe there should be more interaction between students.
ReplyDeleteWhat type of interaction do you mean? Do you mean face-to-face?
DeleteThat is true that lots of people are on there phones now. They choose whether or not to stop using them and talk to people.
ReplyDeleteI agree with you Erik everyone doesn't communicate face to face everyone just texts each other. Hopefully it get's better in the generations to come.
